From the book “a slow and sudden God: 40 years of wonder.”

the gate is closed.
does it keep me out
or in?
is it for protection
or prohibition?
do i have an enemy
that would attack
if the gate did not
block entry?
am i the enemy
lurking in pursuit
of a land i dare
not enter?
i did not
latch the gate,
and i cannot unlock it.
i cannot break through:
its strength is too great.
 i cannot climb over;
it is far too tall.
possibly, i should
accept the existence
of the gate
and find contentment
on this side.
