Common phrases frequently come our way. The repetition of commercials, songs, and familiar phrases slides through our ears and minds so often that we fail to respondPause: Ignoring. We fail to remember their importance. We fail to grasp their original purpose.

Songs, key lines from a movie, quotes from famous people. A commercial, a joke, a takeaway. Or, sometimes numbers become familiar: Numbers that once looked so large now become customary coverage of those injured in an accident, those killed at war, those hearing bad news from a doctor. Houses foreclosed. The amount of debt, the amount of diseases, the amount of deaths.

But we must never let the common become too common.

We must choose to let familiarity bring even more compassion.
